Replacing Auto Windshields

Car accidents happen all the time. These could be major and devastating accidents like collisions that claim lives, or minor ones –  problems where you can consider yourself lucky because they are just seemingly inconsequential and non-life threatening, like a dent on your car or a crack on your car windshield.

If this happens to you—having a damaged or cracked windshield – you don’t just go and get an automobile windshield replacement right away. Before you do that, you have to examine your windshield well first to know the type of crack it got.

Immediately after the accident, it would be better to take a picture of your car to see the effect of the accident. You may also get a notebook where you can record the measurement of the crack. This is important to see if the crack is spreading so quickly and might require immediate action.

You may call your car insurance company or contact them through email, attaching your

photos of the car windshields. This will help them see how bad the damage is. Some auto insurance policies do not cover this kind of vehicle mishap. They will then give you a list of companies you can refer to for windshield repair or replacement.

If it is a minor crack, you can then simply ask quotes for windshield repair instead. This will cost you around 50 to 80 US dollars. For automobile windshield replacement, this will be around 200 to 500 US dollars, depending on the quality of the windshields. Most windshield specialists would first make recommendations and discuss pros and cons of either replacement or repair, so you can pick the smarter choice.
